Crock pots are one of the handiest kitchen gadgets ever. Also called slow cooker argos, they are perfect for today's busy families. Crock pots let you have home cooked meals without the time and hassle of conventional cooking. They do the cooking for you. You can't beat that.

Simply cook the chicken by washing it with cold water and placing it in a roasting pan for a couple hours at 225. When the chicken is fully cooked remove from the pan and let cool. While the chicken is cooling set up your cooking gammon. Chop up a couple stalks of celery, carrots and onions and put on the bottom of the cooking gammon in slow cooker. All the skin and bones from the chicken should be placed onto of the vegetables in the cooking gammon. Add cold water to the cooking gammon until two inches away from the top. Turn the cooker on low and leave it for eight hours. When eight hours have been completed strain the broth and let cool. The fat will rise to the top and should be skimmed off.

Chef Greg Elliott is offering the full gammon joint menu along with a brunch buffet that includes carving stations omelets stations a smoked salmon platter and a chef's selection of mini pastries just to name a few for adults and for children. Call ahead for reservations, 312-255-4460.

Slow Cookers are the most wonderful gadgets in the kitchen. They have been around since the 1970's, but they are becoming a very popular item once again. The convenience is not the only advantage of using a Slow Cooker because taste is enhanced when you prepare food this way.

5) Time things right. Of course you all know this by now, but timing is everything and especially when cooking. Think of what will hold heat longer if you need to warm some bread at the last minute. Or, use your microwave as an insulator. If you take something out of the oven, put it in your microwave and shut the door. The food will stay somewhat warmer than it would sitting out on your kitchen counter.
